Businessman Mykhailo Kokorych, founder of Russian and international space ventures Dauria, Momentus Space, Destinus, renounced his Russian citizenship due to “Russia’s occupation of Ukraine and disagreement with the policies of the Putin government.”
According to Ukrinform’s report, he wrote about this issue on LinkedIn.
“This week I consciously and officially renounced my citizenship of the Russian Federation and terminated my official and sole connection with this country. …This was a conscious decision necessitated by Russia’s occupation of Ukraine and my fundamental disagreement with the policies of the Putin government.” wrote Kokorych, attaching a scan of his letter to the Russian Embassy about renouncing citizenship.
Mykhailo Kokorych is a graduate of the Faculty of Physics of the Novosibirsk State University of the Russian Federation and the former owner of the all-Russian chain of electronics stores “Technosila”. In 2012, he founded Dauria, a company in the Russian Federation that deals with the development and launch of the country’s first private space satellites.
After 2014, Kokorich moved to the USA, a year later he sold his stake in the Russian company. Kokorych founded Momentus Space, which is traded on the Nasdaq stock exchange in the USA, in 2017. However, in 2021, the company’s CEO had to leave his post due to a US law that prohibited him, as a Russian citizen, from accessing the company’s inventions. Kokorin founded the Destinus company in Switzerland in 2021. He said he was working on creating a hybrid between an airplane and a rocket that could transport goods and people quickly.
According to Ukrinform, in January, Russian President Vladimir Putin granted Russian citizenship to 44 foreign citizens from different countries. Among them is a suspect who committed war crimes during the Bosnian war.
