He Papa Francisco today called on political and economic leaders of the Davos Forum promote brotherhood in a “problematic” international climate and address the causes of injustice: “How is it possible that in today’s world people continue to starve or be exploited?” – he wondered.
“This year the World Economic Forum will be held in a disturbing atmosphere of instability. I hope that your debate will take into account the urgent need to promote social cohesion, fraternity and reconciliation between groups, communities and states,” the pontiff wrote in a letter to Forum President Klaus Schwab.
Francis described an “increasingly torn” world in which millions of people suffer the consequences of conflict and warned that “The peace that people desire must be the fruit of justice.”
For this reason, he called on the leaders gathered in this luxurious Swiss winter setting between heads of state and government and businessmen to discuss “Address the injustices at the heart of conflict.”
One of its causes, he said, is famine, which “continues to devastate entire regions of the planet,” while “Others are marked by excessive food waste.”
