The Security Service of Ukraine warns against phishing emails containing malicious files allegedly sent to its name.
This was reported by the SBU press service in Telegram, Ukrinform reports.
“The Security Service of Ukraine is recording phishing emails allegedly on behalf of the Security Service of Ukraine. The mails are mainly aimed at government officials. At first glance these emails look plausible, but in fact they have nothing to do with the Security Service of Ukraine,” said the special service .
It is stated that these emails contain files and applications that, when launched, download malware to the user’s computer in order to collect sensitive data.
The SBU explained that such fake mails could be used by Russian special services for espionage and information gathering purposes.
The SBU Cyber Security Department urges not to open files from unknown subscribers via email, messaging or SMS.
“If you receive such e-mails, do not follow the links or download files and programs. If you encounter such a situation, reinstall your computer’s operating system and report this to the SBU by phone at 0 800 501 482 and by e-mail. -mail: callcenter @ssu .gov.ua,” the special service informed.
As reported, at the end of last year the cyber police warned Ukrainians about a new fraud scheme involving fake SMS in the name of one of the well-known postal services.
