The court banned Apple from selling a watch with a blood oxygen sensor due to an intellectual property dispute.

As reported by Ukrinform, Xinhua is reporting, citing the decision of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal District.

“The ban is related to an intellectual property rights dispute with medical device manufacturer Masimo. In October, the International Trade Commission ruled that the blood oxygen sensor infringed Masimo’s intellectual property,” the article says.

The court order bans Apple from importing devices equipped with this sensor, including the Apple Watch 9 and Ultra 2, into the country. “In December, Apple briefly removed these watches from its online and offline stores, but other retail chains were allowed to stock them. We will continue to sell the devices,” Xinhua reminds.

The agency added that earlier this week, Apple received permission from the US Customs Service to import a modified version of the smartwatch without the function of measuring blood oxygen levels.

According to Ukrinform’s report, Apple became the leader in the global smartphone market in 2023, surpassing Samsung for the first time.
