After a handful of disappointments that knocked it out of the top ARM SoCs, Samsung seems to have finally hit the nail on the head with the Exynos

After a handful of disappointments that knocked it out of the top ARM SoCs, Samsung seems to have finally hit the nail on the head with the Exynos 2400 implemented in at least one variant of the Galaxy S24 smartphones. This technical milestone could motivate the South Korean giant to continue in the same vein and start the development of the next generation of the chip: Exynos 2500.

As for the characteristics of the alleged Exynos 2500, it should again have ten cores based on the ARM architecture and be manufactured under 3nm process. Samsung believes its second-generation 3nm manufacturing process is more advanced than the same process of its main rival in the sector, Taiwan’s TSMC, in aspects such as efficiency.

The distribution of cores would consist of a high-performance Cortex-X5 capable of operating at 3.2 GHz or more, three Cortex-A730 cores with a maximum operating speed between 2.3 and 2.5 GHz, two Cortex-Additional A730s that would operate at lower frequencies and four efficient Cortex-A520 cores. Graphics processor (GPU) would be Xclipse 950 based again on the RDNA architecture, but at the moment it is not clear whether it will be the third or fourth generation of AMD technology.

Samsung Exynos

As for the performance that the Exynos 2500 would offer compared to the rivals it will have to face, Cortex-X5 is rumored to surpass the maximum performance offered by Apple’s next-generation processor core., but it is still too early for that and therefore it would be better to take this information with a grain of salt. Another interesting aspect is that the current Exynos 2400 outperforms the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in features such as ray tracing processing, which AMD’s experience in this sector is able to influence, despite being at least a generation behind. from NVIDIA for dedicated graphics.

In short, it’s still too early to give any assurances about the future Exynos 2500, except that its existence will almost certainly happen considering the good results achieved by the Exynos 2400 in terms of performance. A conservative approach, i.e. improvements in the same vein, is to be expected under the current circumstances, but the official introduction is still many months away and many things can happen or change in the meantime.
