Xiaomi has been rolling out HyperOS on eligible devices since the last few months. The update is rolling out to eligible products worldwide. Only newer models have received the update so far. An interesting detail emerged as the company started beta testing of software for old products. It seems that Xiaomi’s old way of doing business is not over yet.

Available in various Android variants like HyperOS, MIUI

When Xiaomi introduced HyperOS, we expected it to be a new page in the company’s software development. But unfortunately this is not the case.

Although the new software is built with a focus on connectivity and optimization, it fully uses MIUI, which is not a bad thing. But what is surprising is the preservation of archaism. Previously, Xiaomi supported MIUI based on various versions of Android. We predicted that this trend would end with the release of HyperOS. But the company continues to do so.

Recently, HyperOS builds for three older Xiaomi devices started running on the company’s server. These are Redmi K40, Xiaomi 12X and Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G phones.

The software structures for these phones are based on the old version of Android 13 instead of Android 14. So the products mentioned above skip the third Android update but get the latest version of HyperOS. Xiaomi hasn’t promised three Android updates for any of these devices. Therefore, we cannot blame the company for its actions.

However, considering that competitors are improving their software, we cannot help but criticize it. Either way, we’re happy to know that users of these older smartphones will be able to experience HyperOS. It is also worth noting that the Redmi K40 also includes the Poco F3 and Mi 11X. Similarly, the Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G is a redesigned Redmi Note 10 Pro (Max). So all three phones need to receive the HyperOS update.
