Oracle will support Solaris 11.4 for three years longer than originally planned. Paid support now runs until 2037.
Oracle has quietly expanded paid support and upgrade options for Solaris 11.4. The company will now serve customers with the old operating system until 2037. That’s three years longer than initially assumed.
legacy
Solaris is a Unix distribution that Oracle acquired with its acquisition of Sun Microsystems in 2010. Back then, Solaris had many advantages, including scalability and reliability. However, the operating system was outdated and in 2018 Oracle announced that development had been frozen at version 11.4.
Those who use Solaris usually do so for critical infrastructure that has to last a long time. For this reason, Oracle is providing updates and patches for version 11.4. Support is divided into three branches: prime minister, Advanced And Sustainable. With the AdvancedSupport: Oracle offers paid maintenance and upgrades for Oracle Solaris and Oracle Linux. This support will now be extended until 2037.
prime ministerSupport applies to Oracle Sun hardware and related firmware. As announced, Oracle will take care of this until 2031. For the SustainableThere is no end planned.
