Windows 10 does not work on old computers

Today, Windows 10 is a relatively lightweight operating system that It works well even with very old and less powerful PCsthanks to the low hardware requirements and the high level of maturity it has achieved with the various updates it has been receiving for almost 9 years.

However, this Doesn’t mean it’s perfect. nor that it is completely problem-free, nothing could be further from the truth. Since its launch, it has recorded various bugs and errors of greater or lesser severity, which eventually get resolved sooner or later. This reality was constant and unfortunately Windows 10 crashed again.

A more than 31-page thread published in Microsoft’s official technical support confirms that several Windows 10 users they have serious problemsand that they affect how they can use their computers. It primarily affects relatively old PCs on which the mentioned operating system is perfectly capable of running and which are fully compatible with it.

Windows 10

Some users complain that they can’t open images using the Photos app and get the error message “File system error (-2147219196)” and others directlyand have problems with various applications included in Windows 10, from a calculator to a 3D viewer. The curious thing is that the Feedback Hub does not escape either, which indeed has an ironic point.

It’s not clear why this is happening, but it appears that a recent update introduced a requirement that directly breaks Windows 10 support on certain PCs. Such an update would use an instruction set that is not supported on Intel Core 2 and AMD Athlon processors. There is also speculation that a simple inadvertent error at the development level could be behind all of this.

In any case, until the storm passes, the best thing to do if you have an Intel Core 2 Duo or Quad or AMD Athlon based PC running Windows 10 is pause updates. These processors meet the official requirements of the mentioned operating system, so there is no possible justification for this type of problem. I am reminding you of these requirements before finishing to clear doubts (64bit version).

  • 1 GHz 64-bit processor.
  • 2 GB of RAM.
  • 32 GB free space.
  • DirectX 9 compatible GPU with WDDM 1.0 driver.
  • Resolution 800 x 600 pixels.
