The feature will respond to requests for recommendations for any location (like restaurants or stores) using large-scale language models (LLM) to “analyze detailed information in Google Maps to quickly make suggestions of where to go.”
The function will work like this: for example, the user wants to find a unique store of vintage finds in a certain location. They will be able to express their preferences in plain language, and the AI will analyze Google Maps data about nearby places and provide personalized recommendations with photos, ratings and reviews. Users will be able to refine their searches with additional questions without having to rephrase the original query.
This feature is currently being tested by “local guides” in the US. Google says the app will initially be available in the United States, but there’s no word yet on when it will expand to other countries.
Google says working with the Local Guides community will ensure thoughtful use of its generative AI feature.
Operating since 2019, Local Guides describes itself as “a global community of explorers who write reviews, share photos, answer questions, add or edit places, and check Google Maps for accuracy.”
As reported by Ukrinform, Google has added new features to Bard’s AI assistant, including the ability to create images and worldwide access to Gemini Pro.
