India plans to send a “female-like” humanoid robot into space this year, Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said.
According to Ukrinform, The Independent reports this.
According to Singh, the flight of the robot astronaut named Vyommitra, which means “space friend”, is planned to be made in the third quarter of this year, while the Gaganyaan space mission is planned to be launched with the crew in the coming period. year.
“Vyommitra” is designed to simulate human functions and interact with the life support system of the space capsule as part of the mission, the minister added.
The Indian space agency (Isro) hopes that sending robots into space instead of animals will help understand “what weightlessness and radiation in the space environment can do to humans.”
The agency also expects such a robot to help crews monitor module parameters, operate control panels, respond to requests and simulate human functions in future missions.
The “female” humanoid robot itself was first unveiled in January 2020.
As Ukrinform reported, on January 1, the Indian Space Agency (ISRO) successfully launched a rocket with an observatory satellite that will study astronomical objects such as black holes.
