EU approves world’s first artificial intelligence law

Artificial intelligence technologies are becoming more popular every day. Almost all products, applications and services we use today either have AI integration or are in the process of being acquired. However, this situation also brings with it some difficulties. Regulators around the world are calling for monitoring the rapid development of artificial intelligence and adhering to certain rules. At least they have finally achieved their goal, as the European Union has approved the latest version of its AI law, a groundbreaking step in the world of AI regulation. Details are here…

The European Union has passed its first comprehensive AI surveillance law. The aim is to ensure the advancement and implementation of artificial intelligence in a safe, ethical and human rights-compliant manner. Using a risk-based strategy, the law provides stricter rules for high-risk systems. It also prohibits certain unethical practices, mandates transparency, and requires disclosure in AI systems.

This law is expected to encourage the responsible development and application of artificial intelligence, turning it into a valuable tool for society. The main provisions of the law are as follows:

  • A risk-based approach: AI systems will be classified according to their level of potential harm. High-risk systems such as facial recognition or credit scoring will be subject to stricter regulations.
  • Prohibited Programs: Unethical practices such as using covert methods or manipulating people’s emotions will be prohibited in AI systems.
  • Transparency and understandability: AI systems will need to provide information about how they work and make decisions.
  • Discrimination, prejudice and injustice: Measures to prevent discrimination, prejudice and injustice in artificial intelligence systems were also included in the law.

The Artificial Intelligence Law marks an important step for the future of artificial intelligence. This law aims to support the responsible and ethical development and use of artificial intelligence in the EU and beyond, and to help transform artificial intelligence into a useful tool for society.
