And we continue with other rumors related to the next generation of consoles Xbox, more specifically the models that may end up being launched. The word here is that Microsoft could go for a new approach to try to compete with both the PlayStation 6 and Nintendo Switch at the same time.

For some time now, it has not been uncommon to see video game consoles offered in two lines, with a high line with all the support, including physical media, and a low line that is generally more oriented towards digital content and whose features can be somewhat inferior. However, the future generation of Xbox could offer two completely different consoles that form a single ecosystem at the same time. one that would be a laptop similar to the Nintendo Switch and another that would keep the traditional home console format (or what’s in place as a standard since the seventh generation).

Since the desktop console aims to have a relatively conservative profile so far, we’ll focus on the alleged portable one. Apparently this is an Xbox laptop created by the same team behind Surface computers, it would be aimed at playing video games through the cloud, but if Microsoft wants to take full advantage of the portability capabilities, it would be able to support games installed locally and run without an internet connection. At the control level, we can expect what we have already seen many times in laptops with x86 processors, such as Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally, in addition to the presence of a touchscreen.

Xbox

It’s important to keep in mind that the alleged Xbox laptop is a rumor, but it’s a plausible move considering that x86 laptops are a growing sector gaining notoriety and that Microsoft’s console division, despite massive purchases made by the company, still is selling clearly less than the PlayStation. This circumstance may have motivated the Redmond giant to change its strategy and offer something more different from its arch-rival in the sector.

However, Xbox’s possible intentions to offer a portable variant of its next-gen console are probably not an attempt to diversify, but rather a way to respond to Sony showing its intention to launch its own x86 laptop and that it’s the product people have been waiting for, which isn’t the case with PlayStation Portal, but it remains to be seen how exactly this future x86 portable PlayStation will fit into the console brand’s catalog.

We’ll see what happens with the alleged future x86-based portable consoles from Xbox and PlayStation, more than anything else because the sector is growing mainly on the back of Linux and Windows, two PC operating systems that excel at giving users they provide wide freedom. , while Xbox and PlayStation offer much more closed systems. Added to this is the internal competition that Microsoft has with the PC, despite the fact that it has tried to create an ecosystem with a cohesive experience.
