Wary of Hamas-Israel truce despite Qatar’s optimism

Head of American Diplomacy Antony Blinkenhopes to put pressure on today Israel accept a truce, which he considers “necessary” in The war with Hamas is in its fifth month.

The Secretary of State plans to meet with Israeli authorities as part of his Middle East tour, which included Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Qatar.

Qatar, which agreed to a temporary truce several months ago, said Hamas had responded to the offer of a new agreement to end the fighting.

Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al ThaniThis was stated by the Prime Minister of Qatar after a meeting with Blinken in Doha.

The answer contains some comments, but is generally positive.

Although Qatar welcomed Hamas’s response to the proposed truce agreement, Optimism is still tinged with great caution.

Both sides continue to make demands that are difficult to reconcile, reports international journalist Guilhem Delteil.

A little later, a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister of Israel: Benjamin Netanyahuhe said.

Qatari mediator relays Hamas’s response to Mossad [los servicios de inteligencia externos israelíes]. The details are carefully reviewed by the officials involved in the negotiations.

The text currently being negotiated would include a new agreement for the exchange of hostages and prisoners, but would not include all Israeli hostages held in the Palestinian enclave. So this is not an agreement that will end the conflict.

A new truce has been discussed for almost two months. and negotiations are difficult because, unlike the first truce at the end of November, which lasted only 7 days, this truce will be longer: it appears to cover a period of six weeks. For intermediaries it would look like the first step towards a complete ceasefire. Thus, the pressure on both sides increases.

Hamas does not want to release all Israeli hostages without a guarantee that the fighting will end and that the Gaza Strip will receive aid after the war ends.

But the end of the war is difficult to foresee for Israel’s prime minister, whose stated goal was to “eradicate” Hamas. However, Israel did not find any of the movement’s main leaders in Gaza.

To make matters worse, Hamas armed brigades continue to put up strong resistance on the ground and continue to fire rockets into Israeli territory from time to time.

A cessation of hostilities on this basis would be tantamount to Israel’s defeat.
