NASA is trying to restore functionality of the Voyager-1 space probe

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration continues to work to solve the problem that caused Voyager 1 to lose its ability to send scientific data to Earth. The launch of this space probe took place on September 5, 1977.

The problem with the Voyager 1 spacecraft occurred in December 2023. The Flight Data System (FDS), which collects onboard engineering information and data from the probe’s science instruments, began sending a repeating pattern of ones and zeros to Earth, as if it were stuck. Engineers restarted the computer but it didn’t work.

In a new message, published On social network X, NASA did not offer specific details about what was happening on Voyager 1. The device is still sending telemetry and responding to commands, and engineers are still trying to fix the problem.

The mission is complicated by the fact that a signal sent from Earth takes 22.5 hours to reach the probe. The same amount is needed to get Voyager 1’s answer. This means engineers have to wait 45 hours to find out if their team achieved the desired result.
