A few weeks ago we told you that as part of a movement to restore some of its presence in the international market, The OnePlus 12R would leave the markets it has traditionally entered This “economy” version of the smartphone will make its way to both Europe and the United States. OnePlus, which managed to build an exceptional reputation at the beginning, has seen its market position decline (which is understandable, since we are talking about a particularly competitive market) and wants to somehow stop this trend.
That is, with a price 699 eurosAccording to the specifications initially provided by the manufacturer, the OnePlus12R is built on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC accompanied by 16 gigabytes of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 gigabytes of UFS 4.0 storage, which are quite decent specifications, even if we are not talking about the latest generation of the top SoC from Qualcomm, and which undoubtedly tell us about phone that should offer more than adequate performance for the vast majority of smartphone uses.
But if the OnePlus 12R is an interesting option, why is it suddenly making negative headlines and even talking about the possibility of returning it to the manufacturer? Well, because the device information initially provided is incorrect. So where you read “256 gigabytes of UFS 4.0 storage” in the previous paragraph, which is the data given by OnePlus, it should actually say “256 gigabytes of UFS 3.1 storage”which is what the device integrates.
Above are the OnePlus 12R specs in a February 7 image on Archive.org; Below are the current specs on the OnePlus site.
When this information came out, the president and COO of OnePlus, Kinder Liu, released a statement in which acknowledged that all OnePlus 12R variants have UFS 3.1 storage, not 4.0and chalked it up to a communication error. At the beginning of it is the following:
«During the OnePlus 12R launch, we announced the Trinity Engine, a new set of software algorithms that help keep your phone’s memory and storage running fast and smooth for years to come. Due to a bug, we stated that Trinity Engine extended storage will be UFS 4.0 in some variants. I can now confirm that the storage on all OnePlus 12R variants is still Trinity Engine enhanced, but it is actually UFS 3.1.»
Logically, there are many users who were angry and disappointed, but it must be recognized that the company decided to provide an adequate response because, as we can read on the community forums, The company is offering a full refund to those users who want to return their devices. However, they insist that the OnePlus 12R offers excellent performance and are logically trying to encourage users not to return it.
Undoubtedly, we are talking about an important difference, because we have to keep it in mind in general UFS 4.0 doubles the speed of UFS 3.1and it’s a surprising mistake to say the least, because it’s hard to believe that no alarm was raised in the proper control processes.
