Data is a valuable commodity and data protection is becoming an increasingly hot topic. That’s why any way you can protect your data is beneficial. For example, you can turn off telemetry in Windows 11 to make it harder for Microsoft to access your data.

Anyone who goes online frequently leaves behind a lot of data traces. Enough companies that like to follow your footsteps collect all this data and store it in their shopping cart. This can be for your own use (e.g. to train AI or improve your products) or for resale to others. Data and privacy are therefore becoming increasingly important.

To worry about your data, you don’t have to surf shady sites or put your fate in the hands of certain social media. If you’re on a computer running Windows, the tech giant also tracks your data via telemetry. In fact, as a volunteer, you’re helping Microsoft improve Windows. Mozilla, for example, is quite concerned about this. However, there are a few ways to turn off telemetry. We’ll show you how.

In this way, Microsoft only collects data about the use of hardware and computer systems, but no longer about apps or other online activities.

If you like testing new updates, you can ignore this completely; the Windows Insider program doesn’t work without telemetry. This in itself is not illogical, because if you no longer share data with Microsoft, it makes little sense to try out new versions for Microsoft.
