Japanese company Sumitomo Corporation plans to implement a new container technology that allows perishable products to retain freshness for longer.

This has been reported NHK informs Ukrinform.

The technology creates an electromagnetic field inside temperature-controlled containers. This causes the water molecules in the food to move, which slows down the decomposition process.

Sumitomo states that this technology can double or even triple the transportation time of many food products. It will also contribute to controlling transportation costs.

It is emphasized that this innovation is extremely timely, given that many shipping companies are forced to choose longer routes around the Red Sea due to Houthi attacks on ships.

Sumitomo plans to join forces with Hong Kong-based shipping company Orient Overseas Container Line, which will be the first commercial application of the technology.

According to Ukrinform, Japanese food company NH Foods has developed a product made from plant ingredients called “alternative tuna”.
