The wide variety of Xiaomi devices has attracted great attention from both developers and users. After releasing many different Xiaomi devices for every budget, developers have become eager to create custom ROMs for these devices. But recently Xiaomi introduced some very annoying restrictions on unlocking the bootloader. The latest information shows that you can only unlock Xiaomi phone bootloader between Tuesday and Thursday.
Xiaomi will let you unlock Tuesday-Thursday every week
The process of unlocking Xiaomi’s bootloader was already quite complicated due to the company’s recent actions. To unlock the bootloader of your Xiaomi phone, you must have an active Mi account for at least 30 days. Also, you can only unlock the bootloader of three devices per year! Although these requirements may not please you, Xiaomi has introduced another limitation.
Xiaomi does not want the bootloader unlocking process to be automatic. Instead, you need to submit a request to unlock your device’s bootloader; This is then verified by Xiaomi staff. If your request is deemed reasonable, you can proceed to unlock your device’s bootloader.
With the new policy, Xiaomi will now only request bootloader unlocking. Tuesday and Thursday with 10:00 – 16:00. This will be weekly, so you will never be able to unlock it. However, we should point out that this restriction only applies to Chinese devices, but it is still worth noting what progress Xiaomi has made in China.
This situation is likely to disappoint developers and smartphone enthusiasts. Previously, Xiaomi phones with unlocked bootloader could receive system updates. But this is no longer possible. If you have an unlocked device, you won’t be able to receive OTA updates. You can regain access to updates by relocking the bootloader, but again, Xiaomi seems to like to complicate things.
