Apple leads the smartphone market in Europe for the first time

According to data from Canalys, smartphone shipments to Europe decreased by 3% year-on-year to 37.8 million units in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Apple returned to the top spot after seven quarters of lagging behind Samsung, increasing shipments 1% year-on-year to 12.4 million units. Samsung came in second, worsening its result by 12% to 10.8 million units. It is noteworthy that the largest supplier in 2023 is Samsung.

Xiaomi maintained its third place despite a 10% decrease to 6 million units, helped by positive dynamics in Central and Eastern Europe. Motorola and Honor ranked in the top five by selling 2 million and 1.1 million devices, with annual growth rates of 73% and 116%, respectively.

“High-end smartphones took a record share of the European market in the fourth quarter of 2023. Runar Bjorhovde, an analyst at Canalys, said almost 40 percent of smartphone shipments cost $800 or more. “The dominance of the high-end segment is mainly due to the high demand for the iPhone 15 Pro, as well as the stable sales volume of the Galaxy S series and increasing sales of the Google Pixel.”

It was previously reported that among the top 10 models to be delivered in 2023, Apple ranked 7th and Samsung ranked 3rd.
