At launch, users will have access to live data from the NBA, NHL, and MLS, as well as other leagues. The app also offers real-time data for NCAA men’s and women’s basketball. Other leagues, including NFL and MLB, will be added over time.

“We created Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want—an app with incredibly fast access to scores and stats,” said Eddie Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services.

The app will also be ad-free initially.

While Apple Sports can notify users where a game is being streamed, it doesn’t broadcast games directly in the app, instead directing users to the correct app to watch.

As Ukrinform reported, starting in March, Apple will allow users in the EU to download applications not only from the AppStore, but also from third-party stores, in accordance with the EU’s anti-monopoly requirements.
