Several new laptops have already been announced this year that are “Wifi 7 compatible,” but that’s of little use if the Wi-Fi standard isn’t supported in the software. Microsoft is therefore busy building WiFi 7 into Windows 11. In Canary build 26063, Microsoft also officially mentions WiFi 7 for the first time, notes Neowin.
Microsoft says in the release notes for the preview update that Wi-Fi 7 can deliver internet speeds up to four times faster than Wi-Fi 6 on your PC and up to six times faster than Wi-Fi 5. Fi 7, so you must first have a compatible router and PC. If you meet these conditions, you can configure your WiFi 7 access point in Windows in a new settings window, as you can see in the attached screenshot.
In addition, there are no major innovations in Windows Canary 26063: some bug fixes and new commands for Copilot. It will also take some time before WiFi 7 support is available to the general public. This is expected with the Windows 11 24H1 update, which is expected to be available in April. Then the rollout of WiFi 7 can begin, even if it will be years before the WiFi standard is ubiquitous.
The Windows 24H1 update is just around the corner, but Microsoft is currently still working on getting everyone up to the current version 23H2. In a blog, Microsoft announced that it would automatically upgrade Windows devices that can install the update in the coming days.
