The first spy satellite launched into space by North Korea, “Malligen-1” (Malligyong-1), shows no signs of activity for almost three months and only orbits the Earth.

As Korea Times reported, South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik informed about this, Ukrinform reported.

“This (North Korean satellite) is currently in orbit, but is not communicating with Earth and does not show any signs of conducting any missions or participating in reconnaissance activities,” Sin said.

He questioned the accuracy of Pyongyang’s statements that images of South Korean and US military facilities were taken from the spacecraft.

“The information provided by American partners indicates that the satellite rotated normally but was not operating as intended,” the minister said. he added.

He also suggested that North Korea may try to put its second reconnaissance spacecraft into orbit by the end of March, ahead of South Korea, which plans to launch its second spy satellite in the first week of April.

As Ukrinform reported, at the end of November last year, North Korea announced that it had successfully launched the Mulligan-1 (Malligyong-1) spy satellite into Earth orbit, which is expected to be fully operational from December.

Pyongyang also claimed to have received the first space images from a newly launched rover showing Andersen Air Force Base and Apra Harbor on the US island of Guam, home to one of the US Navy’s largest military bases.
