Lenovo shows off its concept phone of the future at MWC. He Motorola Rollable Concept It might not be as eye-catching as the transparent laptop that the Chinese firm also introduced, but it’s really cool a demonstration of the possibilities of flexible screens.
Lenovo isn’t new to these types of concepts, and in 2016 it introduced a phone called the Cplus, which featured a similar ribbed back and a foldable screen that wrapped around the wrist like a smartwatch. It was unusually tall and was a concept that never saw the light of day as a commercial device. We also don’t know if Motorola Rollable Concept will ever hit the market, but it is to be commended that manufacturers dare to come up with an innovative design that stands out among cell phone designs that are all too similar.
This scrollable device is screen based flexible pOLEDs which can be bent according to the user’s will and given different shapes as needed. With FHD+ resolution as wide as today’s mobile phones, it offers a total diagonal when fully deployed 6.9 inches.
Perhaps the coolest position is the one that allows you to fold it up and wear it on your wrist as if it were giant size smart watch. It requires a magnetic strip and doesn’t seem very practical, but it’s great to wear your phone wrapped around your wrist.
There you can use the typical functions of notifications, widgets, video players, controlling multimedia playback, answering messages or calls. It has a fabric basewhich is much more flexible than traditional phone cases, although we don’t know its level of dirt resistance.
He Motorola Rollable Concept It can also be folded and placed on any surface, such as a tent, for taking selfies or video calls without having to hold it in your hand.
Its possibilities are diverse and they go far beyond folding phones in clamshell and free format, whose hinge system allows only limited movements. Lenovo says its shutter has more batteries, though it didn’t say how many. Just as foldable devices have two separate battery segments, the rigid parts must be stretched to allow for flexibility, at least until the industry can produce equally flexible batteries.
In terms of software, we see the typical Motorola interface on Android, although we expect it to have a degree of optimization of the RAZR foldable devices and some added applications. Lenovo has already announced the launch of its own generative AI model aa a personal assistant called MotoAI which will eventually be installed on all of the brand’s mobile devices.
It is difficult to answer whether this Motorola Rollable Concept Will it eventually hit the market, and if so, how will it react beyond interest in the novelty. In any case, and as we always say, we appreciate the commitment to innovation and the effort to create different devices.
