The Ministry of Defense and the Polish Armed Forces plan to launch a number of military surveillance satellites next year.

Polish Deputy Minister of Defense Cezary Tomczyk said this at a briefing, Ukrinform reported based on Sky News.

“We want to launch our first Polish satellites into orbit next year,” he said.

According to Tomczyk, Poland plans to acquire a satellite system equipped with radar and optical technology that will allow observation of the Earth regardless of atmospheric conditions. At the same time, both foreign and Polish technologies will be used.

Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysh said in the same briefing that the country will develop space forces this year based on lessons learned from its experience under the conditions of the Russian occupation of Ukraine.

In December 2022, the Polish Ministry of Defense purchased two surveillance satellites and a receiver station from Airbus Defense and Space for a total of 575 million euros, Ukrinform reported.
