GPD presented the updated console Win Mini of the 2024 model. It has two notable innovations compared to the previous version: AMD Ryzen 8000 processors and a new screen like Asus ROG Ally.
The console in the basic version is equipped with 6-core Ryzen 5 8640U, and in the top version with 8-core Ryzen 7 8840U. Accordingly, in the first case, the user receives a less powerful Radeon 760M iGPU with 8 execution units, and in the second case, a more powerful Radeon 780M iGPU with 12 execution units.
GPD says that the top version exceeds the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti in terms of computing capabilities due to the use of LPDDR5-6400 memory, but what exactly does this mean (it would be nice if the computing capabilities match the performance in games) and how to compare (GeForce’s mobile or not clear with its discrete version (GTX 1660 Ti).
The amount of RAM is 16, 32 or 64 GB. There is no 64GB RAM version of the Asus ROG Ally, nor the Lenovo Legion GO, nor the Steam Deck.
As for the display, GPD Win Mini 2024 received an IPS panel with a diagonal of 7 inches, Full HD resolution, a frame rate of 120 Hz and a maximum brightness of 500 cd/m2. It was announced that the screen supports VRR and also has FreeSync Premium support. Screen protection is provided by hardened Corning Gorilla Glass 6.
Unlike last year’s model, Win Mini 2024 does not have an OCuLink connector, USB4 is recommended instead. The cost of the basic version with Ryzen 7 8840U processor is $ 880.
