A Reddit user under the nickname DullKn1fe shared the result of an Internet speed test provided by SpaceX. It turns out that under favorable conditions, satellite Internet from Elon Musk allows you to download huge files in a matter of minutes.
The author of the screenshot lives in rural Wisconsin, located in the northeastern United States. It managed to lock in download speeds of 301 Mbps, which is faster than many over wired internet. True, not everything is so rosy, since only 20.5 Mbps were uploaded, and the delay is 72 milliseconds, which is quite a lot by the standards of a wired connection.
Before that, another equally impressive result was recorded in March – 299 Mbps. At the same time, sometimes this figure can drop to about 1 Mbps. In the fourth quarter of 2021, Starlink’s average download speed in the US was 105 Mbps, according to Ookla. And in May, a German user claimed to have received an impressive 560 Mbps via satellite internet.
It is worth noting that at the beginning of the year, the Starlink premium tariff was launched, promising a speed of about 150-500 Mbps for $500 per month.
