Snowflake and Mistral AI have announced a partnership to bring advanced language models to Snowflake users, with the goal of securely combining generative AI with enterprise data.
Snowflake and Mistral AI join forces. The data cloud solutions provider partners with Mistral AI to bring advanced language models directly to Snowflake customers within the data cloud. With the multi-year collaboration, the two parties aim to offer organizations the opportunity to efficiently use large language models (LLMs), with a focus on managing data securely and in a privacy-conscious manner. The partnership also includes funding from Snowflake Ventures for Mistral AI.
Through the partnership, Snowflake gives its customers access to Mistral AI’s most advanced LLM: Mistral Large. Other models such as Mistral 8x7B and Mistral 7B are also available. The models provide comprehensive capabilities for understanding, reasoning, and processing large amounts of text and support multiple languages.
Snowflake is also introducing Snowflake Cortex LLM features in public preview. Snowflake announced Cortex at its Summit last year. LLM features allow users to easily develop AI-driven applications in their Snowflake environment. This solution builds on Snowflake’s investments in generative AI, including integrating Meta AI’s Llama 2 model and partnering with Nvidia to accelerate workloads on the platform.
There is no data cloud without AI
Snowflake positioned itself as a fairly unique player in the market with its data cloud: a solution that enables companies to not only manage and access their own data securely and in detail, but also to combine it with external data. Conversely, Snowflake offers organizations the opportunity to share their data (for a fee and possibly anonymized) with other parties.
That’s useful enough in itself, but with the AI hype train leaving the station at high speed last year, it’s not enough. Snowflake can only present itself as the ideal provider for all your data if it can offer sufficient AI functionality. The collaboration with Mistral AI fits into this reality.
