In 2023, Trend Micro reported a 10 percent increase in the number of threats blocked. The cybersecurity company warns of more sophisticated methods used by attackers.
A new study from cybersecurity firm Trend Micro shows that the number of threats blocked will increase by 10 percent by 2023. Attackers are using more sophisticated methods to attack their victims, resulting in greater potential for financial gain. Trend Micro gives its advice for companies to better protect themselves against cyberattacks.
In 2023, the cybersecurity company blocked 160 billion threats, a 10 percent increase compared to the previous year. Cyber attackers focus on different types of tactics, techniques, and procedures to bypass company defenses. According to Jon Clay, VP of Threat Intelligence at Trend Micro, “Understanding the strategies attackers use is the foundation of effective defense.”
The report showed an increase in the number of threats blocked by Trend’s File Reputation Service. From this, Trend Micro concludes that threat actors are choosing their targets more carefully. Cyber attackers are no longer targeting large groups in the hope that someone will click on a malicious link, but are instead targeting a few high-profile victims with a more sophisticated attack. This makes it easier to bypass detection levels such as network and email filters.
Trend Micro recommends efficiently deploying Security Operations Centers (SOCs), carefully monitoring cloud applications, and applying new patches or upgrades to protect the organization from vulnerabilities. Additionally, the company recommends extensive security protocols to protect the company from various threats.
