Apple acquired Canadian artificial intelligence startup DarwinAI.
This was reported by Bloomberg, according to a report from Ukrinform.
The iPhone maker acquired the AI startup at the beginning of the year, and dozens of DarwinAI employees have already joined Apple’s AI division, sources said.
DarwinAI has developed an AI-based technology to visually inspect components during the manufacturing process.
But one of the startup’s main missions was to make AI-based systems “smaller and faster.” This could be beneficial for Apple, which focuses on AI work on devices rather than purely “cloud services.”
DarwinAI has raised more than $15 million by 2022, according to Canadian startup community Communitech.
As Ukrinform reports, Apple has released a new AI model that allows users to describe in simple language what they want to change in a photo.
