Steam Deck has seen unprecedented success and today has a huge catalog of games. Valve’s console is already adding to the total more than 14,000 titles supportedof which more than 4,607 have a certification indicating that they offer optimal operation with the said platform, although obviously not all of them have the same popularity.

To celebrate the console’s upcoming second anniversary, Valve has shared a list of Steam Deck’s 100 most popular games. This list appreciates the popularity of each title not by the sales of each game, but according to the number of active users per day. This approach seems very successful to me and is much more realistic than the sales oriented one.

Steam Deck’s most popular games: there’s life beyond triple A

most popular Steam Deck games

In the list shared by Valve, we find many titles with triple A, but there are also several indie games which have a much more modest approach. Just by looking at the 20 most popular games on this console, we realize this:

  1. Baldur’s Gate 3.
  2. The surviving vampires.
  3. Dave the diver.
  4. Hogwarts heritage.
  5. Elden Ring.
  6. Palworld.
  7. Cyberpunk 2077.
  8. Grand Theft Auto V.
  9. Stardew Valley.
  10. Red Dead Redemption 2.
  11. Hades.
  12. bro
  13. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition.
  14. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
  15. Kill the tower.
  16. Cult of the Lamb.
  17. Dead cells.
  18. The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.
  19. Monster Hunter: World.
  20. Persona 5 Royal.

Almost half The twenty most popular games on Steam by number of active players are indies. Among them we find very popular titles that have been a great success both in sales and with critics, such as Hades, Dead Cells, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and Stardew Valley.

That says a lot about the profile of the average Steam Deck user, a console that also has no issues with movement such demanding games as Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption 2despite the fact that its hardware is rather modest, it has a quad-core, eight-thread Zen 2 CPU with 16 MB L3 cache, 16 GB LPDDR5 memory and a Radeon RDNA 2 GPU with 512 shaders.

In general, this list impresses and clarifies the potential that Steam Deck has. Personally, I have to say that I thought about buying it, but in the end I didn’t because I wouldn’t have time to give it the use it deserves. You already know that there is no point in buying something that we will not be able to properly pay for.
