Not far from the town of Kamin-Pomorski in northwestern Poland, archaeologists have found a rare medieval artifact, a belt buckle designed for hanging keys or small bags, the 15th thing discovered in Europe.
The 56 mm high belt loop is perfectly protected. The front shows an anthropomorphic figure with a schematically marked head and hands placed on the hips.
Upon closer examination, archaeologists noticed diagonal and horizontal cuts on the torso and thighs, depicting a typical costume of the late Gothic period. There is a vertical hole at the bottom of the suit, approximately 13 millimeters long, followed by another hole (four millimeters in diameter), presumably for inserting and carrying small items such as keys, wallets or small bags.
Similar works were common in central and eastern Europe in the second half of the 15th century and the first half of the 16th century.
