According to security researchers, this flaw could allow a hacker to unlock the brand’s door systems Dormakaba SaflokA system used in many hotels. Security researchers have discovered a flaw that could easily unlock key-operated door systems in many hotels.
The vulnerability relates to the door system saflok From the Swiss company Dormakaba. “More than three million hotel locks were affected in 131 countries,” according to researchers, who noted that the flaw has been present for the last 36 years.
As reported wiredSecurity experts discovered the issue in August 2022 after attending a private event in Las Vegas where they were invited to infiltrate a hotel room. The group later reported results from Dormakaba, which started working on a fix in November 2023. However, patching the affected resources was not easy. So far, only 36% of the affected locks have been updated or replaced.
“All locks require a software update or replacement,” the researchers wrote. “In addition, all key cards need to be re-issued, front desk software and card encoders need to be updated, and third-party integrations (such as elevators, garages, and payment systems) may require additional updates.”
Researchers decided to make the flaw public so that hotel staff and guests were aware of this threat. They created a site about the flaw called Unsaflok.
