Several Belgian companies together form the Quantum Circle consortium, where they share their knowledge of quantum technology.

Several Belgian companies will work together to share knowledge about quantum computing. The consortium was called Quantum Circle and is a partnership between Belgian companies such as Belfius, Proximus, IBM and other governments. On the one hand, they want to create an ecosystem around quantum computers and computing and, on the other hand, improve cooperation between academic institutions and research institutes, but also the public and private sectors.

Quantum ecosystem

The consortium is a collective of multidisciplinary quantum enthusiasts from different fields with a common vision. In her opinion, there is a need for a proactive and collaborative approach to quantum technology in our Belgian society. A white paper published by Quantum Circle states that they want to create a Belgian quantum ecosystem where they invite governments to collaborate with local ecosystems, prepare organizations for the quantum decade, and actively search the market for quantum talent to help organizations.

Belgium is not the first country to call for action. Together with more than ten European countries, the EU already has a clear research and development strategy for quantum technology. The EU has launched a quantum technology program that will support quantum researchers for ten years. The need for further research is therefore a global fact, even though it recently emerged that investment in quantum technology has declined since last year.

The consortium currently includes around twenty institutions, including the Flemish Ministry of the Interior. Companies and organizations that would like to take part can also register.
