The Windows Task Manager is a very interesting internal tool for users who want to have a thorough control over the operation of their computer or solve some problems arising from its use.

Microsoft revamped it extensively with the launch of Windows 10 and went further in Windows 11 as it modified the visual part of the new XAML UI implementations in addition to the features and integration. As is usually the case, not all users liked these latest changes.

But use the old Task Manager Windows 11 is still possible, as follows:

  • Press the ‘Win + R’ keys to access the run function.
  • Type ‘taskmgr -d’ to tell the OS to start the manager without the new XAML interface.

The above method is for single use and quite cumbersome if you want to use it a lot. In these cases, it is more convenient create a shortcut to facilitate its execution:

  • Right-click on the desktop and select New > Shortcut.
  • Type taskmgr -d in the “Enter the location of the item”.

  • Click Next and give the shortcut a name you prefer.
  • You can keep access on the desktop or move it to the main panel. Now you can run it with a simple mouse click.

Be clear that these methods allow access to the old Windows Task Manager, but without replacing the new one installed on the system. There are ways to completely modify it, but to ensure the integrity of the operating system, it is better not to do this.
