Support for .NET 7 ends on May 14, 2024

Microsoft once again reminds all developers that .NET 7 will no longer be supported as of May 14, 2024.

Six months after the availability of .NET 8, Microsoft warns that .NET 7 will soon no longer be supported. Because .NET 7 is a Standard Term Support (STS) release, it will only be supported for 18 months after launch. The previous version, .NET 6, was a Long Term Support (LTS) release and will be supported for three years after launch (until November 12, 2024).

If you’re still using .NET 7 today, we recommend upgrading to .NET 8. This is the latest version and is also an LTS release, so you can expect three years of patches and security updates from launch.

May 14, 2024 is this month’s Patch Tuesday, which suddenly marks the end of .NET 7 support. Visual Studio versions 2022 17.6 and 17.4 will receive a service update in June that will make the .NET 7 component optional. As of this service update, only .NET 6 and .NET 8 are supported.
