According to documents released by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the intermediate shaft and right front driveshaft on some Tellurides may not be fully locked. Over time, this can cause the parked vehicle to move unintentionally, increasing the potential risk of an accident.
The recall affects Tellurides manufactured between January 9, 2019 and October 19, 2023. Kia America estimates that 1% of vehicles have this defect.
To resolve this issue, dealers will update the electronic parking brake software and replace damaged countershafts in affected vehicles free of charge. Owners who have already incurred repair costs will also be refunded.
Notification letters will be sent to vehicle owners on May 15, and to dealers a few days before.
As reported by Ukrinform, South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport It fined 10 local and foreign automobile manufacturers a total of $7.6 million on the grounds that they sold vehicles with inadequate safety standards.
