Cloudflare has completed its acquisition of Baselime, entering the observability market and expanding its offerings to serverless application developers.

Cloudflare has acquired Baselime. Baselime, which specializes in cloud-based observability technology, will now become part of Cloudflare’s developer platform. This move allows Cloudflare to combine its experience with serverless platforms with Baselime’s observability capabilities. The goal is to play a role in serverless application visibility and monitoring.

Observability for serverless

A serverless architecture provides scalable and flexible solutions for modern web applications because it allows developers to build an application independently of the server hardware that powers it. Although the hardware scales completely automatically, the disadvantage is the lack of insight into the behavior of these applications. After all, these applications aren’t truly serverless, and the cloud performance they provide comes at a price.

The integration of Baselime technology into the Cloudflare platform promises developers tools for performance monitoring, error detection and cost optimization of their apps.

With the acquisition, Cloudflare customers will gain access to advanced observability capabilities such as analysis of data from thousands of fields, OpenTelemetry-based tools for integration with various application frameworks, and insights from observability data through real-time tracking of errors, alerts, and trace charts and an AI debug assistant. All of these tools are designed to make it easier for developers to quickly identify and fix problems, whether they affect individual users or the entire application.
