Google she announced that she was preparing merging its two video calling services: Meet and Duo. The first is one of two apps that made up late Hangouts, the second is Google Chat, while the second is a video chat app.

Merging Meet and Duo is not nonsense, given that they both have similarities and neither has really spread among users. The search giant has made its intentions clear in a record published as follows: “Migrating Google Meet to Google Duo for a single integrated video solution”.

Google recalled the cross-platform nature of the Duo and the fact that it has approximately 32 million users, while Meet has introduced more than 100 features and enhancements since its launch in 2020.

The company explained this in the coming weeks adds “All the features of Google Meet to Duo so users can easily schedule a video conference at a time that suits everyone, or continue using video calls to instantly connect with one person or group. ”. Later, though probably later this year, the Google Duo will be renamed Google Meet, merging with a single video calling service.

To be more specific, this is features that the Duo will acquire in the near future to eventually become a Google Meet:

• Schedule appointments so everyone can join at the time that works best for you.
• Meeting chat with deeper involvement.
• Share live content so you can communicate with everyone in the call.
• Real-time subtitles to improve availability and increase engagement.
• Increase the number of video call participants from 32 to 100.
• Integration with other tools such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Assistant, Messaging and more.

To all of this would be added the ability to manage features, resources and access to the video call, in addition to educational features for users over 18 and under.

In view of the changes that will be introduced, in the near future there will only be a Google Meet that will have a web version and a mobile application. The company did not provide exact dates for the transition and subsequent termination of the Google Duo, but according to a blog post, the process could be at least very advanced by the end of 2022.
