Scientists note that the cybercrime threat is unevenly distributed around the world. Thus, Russia (58.39 points) took the first place in the cyber crime ranking, followed by Ukraine (36.44 points), China (27.86 points), USA (25.01 points), Nigeria (21.28 points) and Romania ( 14.83 points) followed. England ranked eighth on the list with 9.01 points.
Russian cybercriminals are considered the most professional and technically skilled in the world, and their crimes have the greatest impact, Oxford University said.
The World Cyber Crime Index was developed by authors from the University of Oxford and the University of New South Wales and is the result of three years of intensive research.
The data behind the rankings was collected through surveys of leading cybercrime experts from around the world. Participants were asked to consider five main categories of cybercrime and name the countries they saw as the most important source of each type of crime. Survey participants then ranked each country based on the influence, professionalism and technical skills of cybercriminals.
According to Ukrinform, on January 26, the official website of Georgian President Salome Zarubishvili was subjected to a cyber attack by a group of Russian hackers.
