The American company Apple sent a message about the threat to individual iPhone users in 92 countries of the world, warning them that they could be the target of spyware attacks.
The publication writes about this TechCrunch, which received a copy of the sent letter, reported Ukrinform.
“Apple has discovered that you were the target of a spyware attack that attempted to remotely compromise your iPhone associated with your Apple ID,” Apple said in a statement. said.
“This attack is likely targeting you because of who you are or what you do. While it is never possible to achieve absolute certainty in detecting such attacks, Apple firmly believes in this warning; “Please take this warning seriously,” he added.
The company also did not provide public information about which users were warned about the spyware attack and which countries it was related to. This is because this information “can help attackers using spyware adapt their behavior to avoid detection in the future.”
The publication states that the iPhone maker will send such alerts to users in more than 150 countries starting in 2021.
Last October, Apple sent the same warning to some journalists and politicians in India. Amnesty International, a non-profit human rights group, later reported that it had discovered NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware on the smartphones of prominent journalists in India.
Apple says it relies solely on internal threat intelligence and research findings to detect such attacks.
As reported by Ukrinform, USA announced sanctions against a network of companies and individuals belonging to the international Intellexa consortium that sell spyware, particularly to authoritarian regimes, to harass the opposition, journalists and others.
