One of the first big controversies after Elon Musk bought Twitter was about verified Twitters. The system, which until now was used to identify public figures, organizations or to give a certain prestige to a profile, is now available to everyone and has become a subject of ridicule by some users. So much so that Twitter/X until now allowed users to hide that they had a blue badge.

But it’s over.

Are there any verified people who don’t appear as verified? Yes, the X Premium subscription includes features like more text typing, fewer ads, and verified sign with edit button, among other functions. Previously, being verified meant having some relevance (even though things were that way, the verification process wasn’t perfect). Now you can get it for less than ten euros a month.

So why can it be hidden? Because the verified payment was not liked by Twitter users. What had previously generated a certain amount of interest has now become a badge that allows accounts of a certain nature to appear legitimate. It has also led to identity theft and fraud. A movement called “Block the Blue” has emerged to encourage blocking people with blue badges. In some ways, verification has become a kind of “mark of shame.”

Time is passing. And what is verified varies. Elon Musk’s platform began verifying users with more than a million followers (thus covering the majority of celebrities, whether they wanted to or not) and giving incentives to subscribe, see. making money by publishing tweets (more or less controversial). It recently started verifying users with over 2,500 verified followers.

You can’t hide anymore. Now the waters have calmed and the possibility of hiding the blue check has almost disappeared. This was announced in a notification that appeared to users subscribed to Premium and did not provide further explanation. It only states that the feature will be “deprecated soon.” Because? It was not announced, and in fact Elon Musk, who usually does not take long to announce such things on his personal profile, did not comment on the matter.
