Seagate sent letters to its major customers announcing immediate price increases for all hard drives, in a move similar to Western Digital’s recent move.

In a letter dated April 18, Seagate cites increased demand, lack of production capacity and inflation as the main reasons for the price increase. The increased prices are valid for new orders starting today. The company also warned that this is not the last price increase this year.

The increase in prices of Seagate drives was not a surprise. The company revised its price list after Western Digital, and solid state drive and flash memory manufacturers such as Micron and Samsung also increased the prices of their products. Manufacturers unanimously claim that the increase in the consumption of data drives is due to the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies, but it is also possible that they are trying to make money after the decline in quarters that has continued for several quarters.
