This weekend in the US state of Ohio, residents on the roadside came across a dead animal that bore a striking resemblance to a deer or fishing marten (Pekania pennanti), a species that became extinct in the region nearly two centuries ago. Years ago.


The fishing marten belongs to the marten family and although it is known by a name associated with fish, it rarely feeds on fish. Their natural habitat is North American forests, ranging from the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California to the Appalachian Mountains in West Virginia.

Scientists think the appearance of elk in Ohio may be the result of a reintroduction program in Pennsylvania, where the animals were bred in sufficient numbers to allow for a hunting season. Source
