• Foxconn operates three factories in Mexico that manufacture computers, LCD TVs, mobile devices, set-top boxes and other equipment.
• The affected facility, which employs more than 5,000 people, is located in Tijuana and considered a strategic objectfor playing an important role in supplying the US state of California, a major consumer of electronics.
• On May 31, a report was published on the Lockdir cryptographer’s website about the hacking of Foxconn and the threat of data leaks if the company did not pay the ransom by June 11, 2022.
• According to the attackers, negotiations with the company have not yet been completed, with the hackers still hoping to reach an agreement.
• LockBit requirements are currently unknownbut given that the group often attacks successful companies that can pay significant sums, the hackers are probably hoping to get a large sum.
• Foxconn officials confirmed to the media that the attack took place.

In late May, one of our factories in Mexico was confirmed to have been hacked using a ransomware program. Cybersecurity experts are already working to restore it,
– commented on the company.

Foxconn assured BleepingComputer that the impact to the facility will be minimal and that the restoration will be carried out according to a predetermined plan. A company spokesperson commented:

The plant is slowly returning to normal. Disruptions in business operations will be eliminated by adjusting production capacity. The attack is expected to have little impact on overall performance. Our management, customers and suppliers are also informed about the incident instantly,

The attackers did not give any clues as to what data they were able to obtain, but they are often trying to extract valuable information that can be used as a leverage. Valuable intellectual property schematics and drawings can be stolen as Foxconn manufactures a variety of consumer electronics products for many brands.
