Apple decided to stop iPhone production at the Foxconn factory in Nanning, China. Before that, 50,000 people worked at the factory, and now production was moved to Vietnam, after which the factory was evacuated and the city itself turned into a ghost.
A local resident reported that the facility required huge resources to employ 50,000 workers. They received 60 tons of rice a day, as well as 280 pigs, 1.2 million eggs and 80,000 chickens. Maybe it is related to the nutrition of not only the employees but also their families, but the source does not clarify this point.
Flats built to house employees in nearby skyscrapers are difficult to sell, even at deep discounts. Locals have little hope that Foxconn will restart production in the near future. According to Appleinsider, Foxconn actively uses only a few buildings, and the vast majority are either vacant or leased.
The publication’s sources report that equipment from various enterprises was taken to similar facilities in Vietnam.
