After iOS, the European Commission is also issuing stricter rules for iPadOS. Apple has six months to comply with these rules.
The European Commission said in a statement that Apple’s iPadOS operating system represents an important gateway for business users to reach end users. Therefore, after eight months, the committee decided to add the iPadOS operating system alongside iOS, Safari and the App Store as a gatekeeper service under the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Apple was appointed gatekeeper for its iOS operating system, Safari and the Apple Store under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) back in September 2023. Initially, the iPadOS operating system did not meet the required thresholds, but according to research by the European Commission, it appears that iPadOS still holds a key position as a gateway to the end user.
In addition to Apple, Meta, Alphabet, Amazon, Microsoft and Bytedance were named as gatekeepers. Apple now has six months to adapt its iPadOS operating system to the DMA rules.
