Fortinet introduces the FortiGate 200G series for modern campus networks

Fortinet has launched the FortiGate 200G series. This is a firewall designed to improve security and network performance on campus networks. Devices in this series use the FortiOS operating system and their own chip: the SP5.

Fortinet has launched the FortiGate 200G series. This new family of firewalls is designed to support connectivity and security in campus environments. The series has 5GE ports and is therefore compatible with the Wi-Fi 7 standard.

The FortiGate 200G firewalls use Fortinet’s own SP5 Security processing unit. The SP5 came onto the market in fall 2023 in the FortiGate 90G. The chip takes the form of an ASIC optimized for security workloads. According to Fortinet, the SP5 makes the hardware both efficient and performant compared to the competition.

Solid throughput performance

In addition, Fortinet is further expanding its platform approach and integrating FortiGuard AI-Powered Security Services into the new firewalls. The combination of these provides improved throughput and efficiency, so businesses can expect better protection and performance.

The firewall can handle significant traffic and complex security features. Throughput speeds are up to 39 Gbps for firewall functions, with 6.4 Gbps for real-time protection against cyber threats.

According to Fortinet itself, the Fortinet FortiGate 200G series promises a sevenfold increase in throughput capacity and a twofold increase in effectiveness in protecting against cyber threats compared to the industry average.

Like all other Fortinet solutions, this new family of firewalls is part of the Fortinet Security Fabric. The device therefore works with other Fortinet security solutions and exchanges information to quickly detect threats.
