Cloudflare has expanded its Data Localization Suite with 19 new data processing regions, giving customers more control over where their traffic is processed.
Since the launch of Regional Services in June 2020, Cloudflare customers have been able to determine where their data is processed. This complies with European regulations on data locality and data sovereignty. Cloudflare offers the option to retain data within certain jurisdictions or to avoid doing so. The expansion to new regions takes into account the increasing demand for these options due to geopolitical developments and legal obligations.
New regions and sustainability
New regions available this quarter include Austria, Brazil, France, Italy, the Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, and Taiwan. There are also specific areas such as Cloudflare Green Energy and regions that exclude certain countries such as Hong Kong, Russia, and Belarus. Customers can now also select the NATO region or specific US states such as California, Florida, and Texas.
Cloudflare is also responding to sustainability by limiting data screening to sustainable data centers within the Cloudflare Green Energy region. This is part of their strategy to anticipate the increasing demand for environmentally friendly solutions.
ITdaily recently organized a roundtable on data centers and infrastructure, where experts in the field discussed data localization, cloud and infrastructure in the Belgian IT landscape.
