WithSecure introduces Luminen, a generative AI tool that is integrated into the Elements solution but does not take the form of an intelligent chatbot. WithSecure describes its own approach as more secure and efficient.
On the eve of its annual Sphere conference, Finnish security specialist WithSecure is launching Luminen. Luminen is a generative AI assistant, but not in the classic sense of the word. The Finns suffer from the prejudice of being a rather reserved and uncommunicative people, and Luminen follows this philosophy.
Luminen is integrated with WithSecure Elements to provide additional context, but not through a chatbot interface like we see with competitors in the cybersecurity world. Instead, Luminen-LLM supports contextual functionality in the background. Users can click buttons in Elements to get more context, and Luminen provides that context in human language.
The fact that Luminen, as an LLM, stays somewhat in the background and hides behind buttons is, according to the experts at WithSecure, a major advantage over other solutions. “Simply layering Generative AI on top of existing tools is not a good solution,” explains Paulo Palumbo, VP and Head of WithSecure Intelligence. “In this way, GenAI creates more distraction and confusion. Don’t forget: other forms of AI such as machine learning have been used for a long time, but also behind the scenes.”
Leszek Tasiemski, VP and responsible for Foundation Product Management, explains in more detail: “We took our time implementing a GenAI solution simply because it was too dangerous to be too quick.”
In Elements, when you press a button that contains lumines, the LLM actually gets a prompt. The important difference is that WithSecure takes care of the prompting. “We maintain it as code in a timely manner and prepare the data so that the data is relevant and securely comes from your company,” says Tasiemski. “It’s dangerous to just stick GenAI to something. Chatbots can hallucinate and users can shoot themselves in the foot.”
WithSecure expects Luminen to make the Elements solution more accessible and relevant for mid-sized companies. According to interim CEO Antti Koskela, this is something that has been somewhat forgotten in the world of cybersecurity today, while attackers certainly do not discriminate based on the size of a company.
Luminen needs to bring together information and context through relevant buttons with the right prompts behind them, so that an IT professional without special security knowledge can clearly see the right information at the touch of a button.
WithSecure Luminen is available as part of Elements at no additional cost.
