Microsoft renews Windows 11 deployment 24H2 so you can try it out

Microsoft resumed Windows 11 24H2 deployment this weekend. The build is still in preview, intended for the Insider test channel, and offers an almost complete preview of what we’ll see in the stable version at the end of the year.

You already know that Microsoft had to pull the first build due to number of version errors and recall criticism, a stellar AI feature that ended up being a privacy nightmare. After the download and we assume the biggest bugs have been ironed out, the company continues to develop an important version as it will be the only general feature update released this year for Windows 11.

Version has a build number 26100.863. It differs from the first test version, which would confirm the changes in the code. However, the list of functions has not changed and it is the one we already knew, with native support for new standards and technologies (Wi-Fi 7 and others); removing previous features and apps (Cortana, WordPad, Tips…) and improving AI features, although Microsoft is expected to go slower after the Recall disaster.

If you want to try this trial now, the easiest and fastest option is to update the versions using Windows Update.

The only requirement for stable versions is activate the Insider channel first:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program.
  • Select Getting Started and follow the instructions.
  • You must link your Windows Insider account to the system. If you don’t have an account, you need to register one in advance on the official website.
  • When asked to select a channel to join, select Release Preview.
  • Open Windows Update in Settings and check the option to get the latest updates as they become available.
  • Click ‘check for updates’. Windows Update should now direct you to Windows 11, version 24H2, to download and install.

Microsoft is also updating the list of ISO images to the latest build for those looking to build ‘clean’ device, from scratch. It will be available on the Insiders website, and installation is the same as other versions of Windows, including running it in a virtual machine in case you want to try it out, but without touching anything on your main system.
